The Treasonous American Left.

Every time a conservative points out that a Liberal position or statement is anti-American or unpatriotic, they get all huffy and claim Jefferson said, "Dissent is the greatest form of Patriotism." I have searched and searched and the only place I see it, is liberally biased Blogs. Since the liberal’s place so much importance on this statement, you would think it would be easily confirmed and found.

Not surprisingly I did find a confirmed Jefferson quote which seems to say the same things the Republicans say. Here it is, "I fear [political difference] is inseparable from the different constitutions of the human mind and that degree of freedom which permits unrestrained expression. Political dissention is doubtless a less evil than the lethargy of despotism, but still it is a great evil, and it would be as worthy the efforts of the patriot as of the philosopher, to exclude its influence, if possible, from social life. The good are rare enough at best. There is no reason to subdivide them by artificial lines. But whether we shall ever be able so far to perfect the principles of society, as that political opinions shall, in its intercourse, be as inoffensive as those of philosophy, mechanics, or any other, may be well doubted." --Thomas Jefferson to Thomas Pinckney, 1797. ME 9:389

It would seem that once again, the Left have high-jacked a quote(or made up one) and twisted it to say what they want, much like the separation of Church and State they claim Jefferson was so strident about. I found a site which had hundreds of Jefferson quotes and specialized in them. I searched for the work, "God" and found 44 quotes with that in it. A majority of those quotes discussed God’s majesty, benevolence and gifts, but very few discussing the separation. I searched for the word, "dissent" and found 2 quotes, one I have given above and the other discussed how to deal with dissenters.

The Left’s inept and immoral skewing of the words of a great American patriot to give patriotic credence to their hateful anti-American views.
